BONUS BaltCoast summer school 2017

From August 20 – 26, 2017 the second BONUS BaltCoast summer school “A System Approach Framework for Coastal Research and Management: From theory to practice” took place in Riga and Salacgriva District in Latvia.

During this week, 22 bachelor, master and PhD students from the Baltic Sea Region, but also Brazil, Cameroon, Ghana, Montenegro, Spain, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, and the USA received intensive SAF training. Participants covered all SAF steps from Issue Identification to Monitoring & Evaluation during lectures and applied the different supporting methods and tools during practical exercises and group work. Furthermore, they gained insights into coastal management issues, such as management of Natura 2000 areas and the invasive round goby in Latvia and visited the BONUS BaltCoast case study sites in Pärnu (Estonia) and Salacgriva, to learn about coastal protection management and coastal municipal governance.
